Bagpipe Blow Stick
Watch the videos and look at the diagram below to get a better understanding of your Blow Stick.

Blow Sticks are what you blow into to fill your bagpipe. They comprise of the mouthpiece, blowpipe and valve. They come in many shapes and sizes so pick which ever one you like best.
Mouthpiece
A tubular piece of wood or plastic that screws onto the threaded end of the blowpipe and fits into the piper's mouth.
Blowpipe
Used to get air from the piper's mouth to the bag. One end of the blowpipe is fitted with a replaceable mouthpiece and the other is commonly fitted with a valve.
Valve
This one-way valve keeps air from backing up the blowpipe and thus allows the piper to take a breath while pressure and airflow to the pipes is maintained.

Valves open as you blow air into the blowpipe and close as you take a breath. There are many types of valves on the market and they all do the same thing. They keep the air in your bag. Most people use a simple rubber valve. While others use more tech savvy products such as the Little Mac and the Moose Valve. These products all work great. The only valve I would stay away from is a leather valve. They are cheap and unreliable. |
